Career Readiness Resources

MyCareerShines is a comprehensive education and career planning system that will help your students succeed in the increasingly competitive global economy. Students will learn about themselves, discover the many options and opportunities for their career future, and gain access to the information and tools to achieve their goals.

Tips for use as school counselor: Section 1003.4156, Florida Statutes, requires students to complete a Career and Education Planning course to be taken in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade. This toolkit created by the FLDOE will aid counselors at any grade level in properly utilizing and walking students through MyCareerShines as an excellent resource for college and career planning.

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)

The ASVAB CEP is a free Career Planning Resource with three components

  1. The ASVAB test – A multiple aptitudes test that allows students to identify their skill strengths
  2. FYI – An interest inventory that highlights work-related interest areas where students are most likely to succeed
  3. OCCU-Find – A catalog of careers with relevant occupational data and a full suite of future-oriented planning tools to help students develop an action plan to share with parents and educators.
