FLORIDA SCHOOL COUNSELORS are advanced degreed educators responsible for advising students with regard to their abilities and aptitudes, educational and occupational opportunities, and personal and social adjustments; providing placement services; and similar functions as described in Section 1012.01(2)(b), F.S. Florida DOE, Rule 6A-4.0181. School counselors serve all students at all school levels. They are also employed in district supervisory positions and school counselor education positions. |

SCHOOL COUNSELOR ROLETo deliver a “School Counseling Program” … a set of focused resources and supports designed by schools and districts to meet the unique needs of the students. The key aspects of the program include academic advisement and planning, career guidance and postsecondary planning, responsive mental health counseling services, community partnerships, and support with the provision of resiliency education, civic and character education, and life skill education(FL 6A-5.079, Florida School Counseling Standards). APPROPRIATE DUTIES INCLUDE PROVIDING:
