2026-2027
SCHOOL COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR

MICHELLE BOCOCK

SKYE RANCH School  | SARASOTA, FL

The Florida School Counselor Association (FSCA) is thrilled to announce Michelle Bocock as the 2026–2027 Florida School Counselor of the Year (SCOY).

Michelle is a school counselor at Skye Ranch School in Sarasota, where she serves 1,187 students. A school counselor since 2015, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Eastern Mennonite University and a master’s degree in school counseling from James Madison University.

School counselors have a significant impact on the lives of students, and the FSCA School Counselor of the Year award highlights the work of a counselor who has made an extraordinary impact on their students, school, and community,” said Dr. Rebecca A. Schumacher, FSCA Executive Director.

Skye Ranch School opened for the 2025–26 school year, and Michelle played a critical role in developing and implementing the school’s comprehensive school counseling program.

“Michelle worked with intentionality, professionalism, and a deep commitment to ensuring that every student received the support they need to thrive in our brand-new school community,” said Skye Ranch School Principal Jamie Hannon.

Hannon described Michelle’s classroom instruction, individual counseling and small-group work as “exceptional for social-emotional development, conflict resolution, goal setting, and problem-solving skills.”

“Michelle builds authentic relationships with students and creates a safe environment where they feel heard, valued, and supported,” Someone said. “Her calm presence and thoughtful guidance help students navigate challenges while building the skills necessary for both academic and personal success.”

Michelle is also a dedicated advocate and collaborator.

“Michelle works closely with school leaders to ensure appropriate interventions and supports are in place, partners with teachers to address classroom concerns, and connects with families to provide wraparound support," Hannon said.

Through her advocacy, Michelle helps remove barriers to learning and ensures students have access to the opportunities and resources they need to succeed.

“FSCA is proud to recognize Michelle Bocock as our School Counselor of the Year,” Schumacher said. “Her programs, advocacy, collaborations, and services empower Skye Ranch students for academic achievement and school success. Michelle is a role model and a champion for students."

Michelle will be celebrated as the FSCA School Counselor of the Year at the 2026 FSCA Convention this October.
