Back to School Support: LGBTQ+ Resources and Guidance for Florida School Counselors  

As Florida school counselors prepare for the upcoming school year, supporting the mental health, safety, and well-being of LGBTQ+ students remains critical for creating inclusive and supportive school communities. This session will provide school counselors with practical resources, current legal updates, and guidance for navigating common questions related to supporting LGBTQ+ students and families, including time for Q/A.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key updates and considerations for supporting LGBTQ+ students and families in Florida schools.
  • Explore practical resources and strategies to promote student safety, inclusion, and well-being.
  • Apply ethical and student-centered approaches when navigating questions related to LGBTQ+ student support.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

   

Dr. Noelle DeLaCruz (she/her) is a Licensed and Nationally Certified School Psychologist and Certified Child & Adolescent Trauma Professional. She holds a Master’s degree in School Psychology from the State University of New York University at Buffalo and a Doctor of Psychology degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Noelle was an Associate Instructor for the Crisis Prevention Institute and has worked in public schools and private practice for nearly two decades. Through her current role as Director of Health Equity, Noelle provides structural support within educational, community, and healthcare settings to ensure that LGBTQ+ individuals receive the highest standard of affirming and inclusive care. She collaborates with statewide professional organizations to develop training and implement initiatives that prioritize suicide prevention and trauma informed best practices for LGBTQ+ youth, clients, and families.
